Idea Design is an independent design consultancy based in London & Athens. We offer architectural lighting design services. Idea Design ltd was first established as a limited company in 2013 in London by Vasiliki Malakasi.
Vasiliki is an architect turned lighting designer and she draws lighting design experience from a variety of key international projects, high profile clients and collaborations with architects for over 17 years.
Vasiliki graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 2004 and she is a practicing architect and a member of TEE in Greece since 2005. Lighting design started as an area of interest and soon gave her a new professional direction. She completed the MSc Light and Lighting at Bartlett, UCL in 2006 and soon after joined Arup Lighting in London. In July 2013, Vasiliki moved from a senior lighting designer role at Arup to establish Idea Design with clients including the Rothschild family office and the Rothschild Foundation. In June 2017 she joined GIA Equation, a well-established lighting practice, as an Associate Director looking after the design team and a wide range of high-profile clients & projects.
Since July 2020 Vasiliki is operating through her practice Idea Design and in collaboration with other likeminded design practices teaming together to meet different project scale and design requirements which are tailored to the individual client and project needs.
The practice is not commercially affiliated with the lighting manufacturing industry. Our only commitment is to our clients and the aim is to deliver creative, qualitative, sustainable & cost-effective lighting schemes which meet the design brief and add value to each project.
Being an inseparable element of architecture, lighting, is designed to address the client’s needs, designer’s vision, modern codes/regulations, lighting design standards, environmental and sustainable objectives.
We believe in TOTAL DESIGN, integrated solutions where lighting is another design layer enhancing architecture and facilitating the use & activities of each space.
